Senior Prophecy:

Rhett Atkinson will be expelled from Ole Miss: we know what his last words will be.
He'll be looking the chancellor right in the eye, and then holler loudly, "Really, J.D.!"

Senior Will:

I, myself, Rhett Ruffee Atkinson, O.H.S.'s last great lover and hero, being of great skill, will, mind ability, courage, strength, stamina, and heart, do leave my school to Mr. America, Tommy-Gun Vinson; with the request that upon his graduation he wil return R.M.H.S. (Ruffee Memorial High School) back to the administration as I can see no possible hope for it upon his graduation.

Update Christmas 2009

Recapping briefly, since 1966, I went to the University of Mississippi where I got my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mathematics.  I then went into the Air Force where I was stationed at the Satellite Test Center outside of San Francisco, CA where I met and married a fiery Irish redhead Elaine Harrington, a native of San Franciso.  I got my M.B.A. at Santa Clara University while in the service.  I then went to medical school at the University of Mississippi in Jackson.  I did my residency in Anesthesiology at Stanford University where I have now lived and practiced for the last 23 years.

I have been blessed with 3 children, Christine, a graduate of University of Southern California now working and living in San Diego;  Michael, a graduate of Harvard University, who is now working on his PhD in applied Math at Stanford; and my youngest daughter, Erin, who graduates the day of our reunion at Stanford University.  Erin is off to medical school at University of Southern California in August.

I am an active outdoor person very involved in long distance hiking and biking.  I would love to show my classmates the wonders of Yosemite or Sequoia National Parks if they make it out here to the Bay Area for a visit. I miss you all and wish you all the very best.

Update Christmas 2007  - Family Photo

Christine has been living in San Diego for six years and continues to work for ProFlowers.com (an internet flower company).  She’s been promoted and is in now in charge of their endorsement radio marketing and same day delivery services.  This has been a very busy and happy year for Christine.  She enjoys her job, bought a new house during the summer, and survived the San Diego fires this past autumn.

Michael is in the fourth year of a PhD program in applied mathematics at Stanford University.  He has a great fellowship and lives in an apartment on the Stanford campus.  His PhD will deal with the application of mathematical and statistical models to homeland security issues.

Erin is now in her third year of medical school at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California and is living in Pasadena.  Erin went to Peru in March and hiked up to Machu Picchu.  This past summer she traveled to Thailand where she received a back massage from an elephant!

Rhett is still practicing anesthesiology at Stanford University Medical Center and the local area surgery centers.  Hiking and biking remain his passions.  Elaine continues to be “The Boss”.  We traveled a lot this past year from Hawaii to Virginia, including Lake Tahoe (where we were caught in the big Angora fire in June), Palm Springs, Scottsdale & Sedona, Arizona, Breckenridge, Colorado, and Williamsburg, Virginia.  While on our vacations we visited with friends, rode our tandem, saw historic sites (including the 400 year anniversary of Jamestown’s settlement in 1607), and just enjoyed our beautiful country.
